30 Years Down The Line: The Story of the Fife Heritage Railway (30th Anniversary Documentary)
On May 21st 1992, a railway perseveration society was formed known as the Kingdom of Fife Railway Perseveration Society to take over the stock on the Lochty Private Railway that was to close by the end of the year.
30 years on from a troubled start, this is the incredible story of how a small group of volunteers would rescue heritage stock, but also find a new home in Fife. Witness rare or never before seen footage and images of a dramatic transformation of a large section of land once known as Kirkland Yard that was previously barren and which over two decades would be transformed into a a major attraction for Levenmouth.

Final video of the famous A4 locomotive working at Lochty sometime in the late 60's. This time has the A4 working with the Beavertail coach, now based on the Great Central Railway, and probably the only known footage of the Lochty line viewed from a train. Look out for the wheel slip No.9 does when leaving Lochty station! Footage once again done by Peter Westwater.

Thank you for this. Union of South Africa was the first ever A4 that I saw, when it was still in BR service, on 9th May 1964, gleaming on the return leg of the 'Pegler Pulman' from Edinburgh to Doncaster, taking over from Flying Scotsman, which had hauled the northbound leg. I saw it several times after that under BR, including the Jubilee Requiem Express on 24th October 1964, until its withdrawal and its salvation by John Cameron. I knew about the Lochty Private Railway when the time came, but I had neither the opportunity nor the means to visit it at the time. I 'bumped into' 60009 at various times during later years, including the times in the early 90s when I went to the Battle of Britain Day air displays at RAF Leuchars and No 9 would be in steam near the entrance as a visitor. In later years I've seen her more often, most recently on the main line in April 2019 and at that time I had hoped I would see her free and on a loose rein at least once more on the ECML in my steam-starved county of Northumberland, but because of various mechanical hiccups, that was not to be. Enjoy your retirement, No 9 and thank you many times over to John Cameron for the immeasurable pleasure you have brought to to countless people in the past 55 years of No 9's history.

QTXAdsy Good evening I found the film to be very comprehensive. The music and images were emotional and nostalgic. I am 61 and with pocket money bought Railway Magazine from about 1968 onwards as a wean. I remember seeing the A4 in a pic in RM. I asked my dad if we could go, he was a Glasgow tram and clyde Steamer authority but was not as up on trains as me. He sought advice from his railway boffin academic friend. Who said it was not worthwhile travelling so far for such a short and stupid venture. Boo Hoo,LOL. Never got there ,so your film is part of a missed childhood,at a sensible level. I am a bit hacked off at the big Heritage Lines . I joined my first railway society recently,Doon Valley Railway. I will be coming to Fife.Nothing adverse about this production. Thanks again.

@@julianturdfellow7168 Thank you, at Kirkland there are many who were there at Lochty who have many tales to tell when you do visit. Only a shame that Mr Cameron won't consider letting No.9 and Great Marquess come to our yard to stay as he wants them kept in Fife.

4:45 *Easy just request (ask politely) Rishi Sunak for the tiny ½ Million or less, this would need and we have a link completed from Leicester North to Ruddington and the fabulous Rushcliffe Country Park that has been my refuge and salvation for my wife and myself during this 2020 C19 Virus Lockdown. Have driven there (20 Miles) since allowed if spent more or equal time 'Exercising' and one day stands out when some old bidet watches us unpack our cold box and states "you can't do that" in a Monty Python voice - I am sure it would have achieved an BAFTA at Least, you couldn't make it up.*

*The Great Central could/could have be converted at a modest cost by HS2 Standards (2020+?) into a very good very high speed 175mph Electrified Line from London - Sheffield. The Last Main Line constructed (1899) and built to Continental Loading Gauge and designed for high speed running with 'Island Platforms'. Very few tunnels on the route and although further than the LMS (Midland) line served a number of expanding population centres. In hindsight it was a huge mistake to close it with Beeching Cuts, but one has to consider that at the time (1960's) is was seen as the future lay in Cars. It would cost many millions, but current 'estimates' of HS2 are exceeded £100 BILLION. My Ideas would be bypassing main cities and having high speed transit routes into them rather than passing through urban areas at speeds in excess of 175 mph and links to Oxford, Rugby, Leicester, Nottingham, (East Midland Airport) and Chesterfield. Don't worry GC a 'bypass' would leave you untouched.*

Who in 1967 would have believed that 48 years after these events in humble Lochty, 60009 would proudly pull a train over a re-opened section of the Waverley route, with the Queen on board! We are greatly indebted to those who had the foresight to save this beautiful locomotive from the sad fate of so many engines that were mercilessly cut up.
